No doubt that employees lying to companies is wrong. But the same companies then go on to lie to their clients about the experience of their employees. All the big IT Companies do this.
This is NOT common in the USA. I've only seen this outside the US mostly India and occasionally China. Big enough problem that when I work with IT recruiters from India or Indian background, they carry a lot of that fear of cheating into US applicants. Like requesting full driver license before interview and FULL current address to verify where you are from. No, these aren't scammer trying to get your information. My company has hired these 3rd party Indian recruiters and we are constantly telling them they can't do that. It's illegal in some cases. Yet they continue.
